Southern Elite set for July 10

The second annual Southern Elite Combine will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at FNC Park in Oxford, Miss. The combine is presented by 247Sports and Varsity Preps.

Team 1 in the 7-on-7 portion of last year's Southern Elite Combine featured (front from left) D.K. Buford (Ole Miss commit), Raphael Hopkins, Devin Voorhies (LSU commit), C.J. Hampton (Ole Miss commit), Jalen Hurd (Tennessee commit), Parker Adamson (Southern Miss signee) and Trey Bledsoe (Ole Miss signee).

Prospects from the classes of 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 are eligible to attend. Players will be tested in a Sparq format, receive individual instruction from NFL veterans and some of the region’s top coaches, participate in one-on-ones against top talent, and perform in front of regional and national recruiting analysts from multiple organizations.

Last year’s event featured some of the top talent in the South, including running back Jalen Hurd (Tennessee Mr. Football 2012 and Volunteer commit), safety C.J. Hampton (Ole Miss commit and invitee to The Opening), safety Devin Voorhies (LSU commit), offensive lineman Daronte Bouldin (Ole Miss signee), quarterback Parker Adamson (Southern Miss signee), athlete Trey Bledsoe (Ole Miss signee) and running back D.K. Buford (Ole Miss commit).

The field of prospects in this year’s event is expected to be equally strong.

“Right now, we already have registrations from players from the states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, Texas and Alabama,” said co-coordinator David Johnson. “It is a great opportunity for a prospect to see how he matches up with some of the best talent in the region, get some top-notch instruction and it’s a great opportunity for exposure.

“We are excited about how fast it has grown in just a year’s time. The fact that the combine’s reach has extended as far west as Texas and Oklahoma, to the east to North Carolina and up north all the way to Illinois and Ohio speaks volumes. We have been hard at work to tweak several things from last year’s event to make this year’s even better.”

Names of attendees will be released incrementally over the next two weeks via Twitter at @secombine . Interested prospects are encouraged to pre-register now, as space is becoming extremely limited. Prospects should send an email to secombine@gmail.com with questions and/or to begin the pre-registration process.
