    • This statement has to make everyone just a tad nervous...It does me. Hopefully... Freeze makes a statement with this game....and this is considered a unforgivable game if you lose...so there is added pressure...more than it should be.

      here is the statement.

"***The Bears gave Louisiana Tech fits last season, falling in a shootout 48-42. Louisiana Tech, of course, beat Ole Miss in Oxford. "

    • Agree with 16! This is scary.... I believe the rebs will beat them In fine fashion though. They certainly CANNOT be overlooked.

The fact that they almost beat La Tech doesn't concern me. That's like taking a sort of "six degrees of seperation" approach because what they're impying is 'UCA almost beat LT, LT beat Ole Miss, therefore this will be a tough game'.
I don't think you can put that much stock into the La Tech correlation. The reason I say that is because that was one of the 3 games we played last year after it was announced Houston Nutt would not return as coach. The players AND coaches had officially given up at that point, and as a result we were demolished in our final 3 games.
This may be a close game, (UCA went 9-4 in Division 1AA last year) but it won't have anything to do with LA Tech. Needless to say this is a must-win game. I know that's not really fair for a brand new coach, but a loss will really put the team, and fanbase on the mat, and will cause serious concerns about Freeze's coaching ability. Even a close win will be cause for concern in my opinion, but would not necessarily be evidence that things are seriously wrong
This program has to learn how to win a game again. That's a lot easier said than done. If we turn the ball over, which Bo Wallace is prone to do, then unfortunately this will be a close game. If we eliminate mistakes I think we win the opener by 10-17 points. I don't think we will go out and just spank UCA like many are hoping.

    • Central Arkansas has two main areas of concern for themselves heading into Saturday: Their offensive line and the quarterback position.

There will be three new starters on the OL for UCA on Saturday and one of the two returning starters will be making his first start as a college center after playing guard in 2011. That bodes well for the Ole Miss D-line and linebackers to control things in the trenches.

Smothers, who reminds a little of Barry Brunetti on film, draws the difficult assignment of being charged with running an offense inside a charged-up SEC stadium. His legs and their ability to scramble was reportedly the seperator for him winning the starting job in camp. If you have an O-line that may be suspect, you tend to go with the QB with the most ability to improvise.

On the flip side, UCA's defensive secondary appears to be the most talented and deepest area of their team and the Rebels look to fling the ball all over the place. With that said, I believe the Ole Miss wide receiver corps will begin making a name for itself on Saturday provided Wallace (and Brunetti) is given enough time by the OL to make all of his reads and find the seams. There are at least three WRs on this Ole Miss roster with solid NFL potential in Donte Moncrief, Ja-Mes Logan and Vince Sanders.

Good info David.. I think our defense will be swarming to the ball. From what I see them posting on twitter our defense is fired up about this year and they have some confidence and I have some confidence in them. I think our dline will control the line and I don't see their QB passing very well on our secondary. My only concern is his legs. Offensively, like you said we need to play turnover free football. I think our oline will play good as well as our backs

    • The last time we beat Texas was in 1957 in the Sugar Bowl. I watch that game all the time at my grandparents. My grandad William Otis Hurst made the opening tackle that game and finished with like 10. Gives me chill bumps just thinking about it.. He said when he went in the stadium he pi$$ed in his pants lol. Hotty Toddy

    • This team will be prepared. We know who the offensive play maker is and we know that the QB will manage the game till the staff is comfortable with them.

The dline will be angry and the line backers will be flying around. The defense will be so different and ready for any pace on the field.

    • This game doesnt concern me nearly as much as UTEP and Tulane, we are going to go into this game pumped up and ready to play. However next week we have to be careful to not look ahead and that 2nd of three Texas teams on the season and then Tulane will all depend on how we play and respond after the Texas game. If our boys arent careful we could be in for a VERY long season cause imagine if we DONT go into SEC play 3-1....i believe we can and will win 3 of the first 4 but like it has been said you have to learn to win and if the Rebels dont do that quickly they might not get a chance to learn it this season at all

I think we can go 3-1 in those first 4 games, but one thing I've learned is that even in our good seasons we typically have a poor start and usually drop an early game we should win. My take on the non-con:

      1) I addressed UCA above. Don't turn the ball over and we win. Do that AND play well and we win going away.

      2) UTEP should have decent athletes. I think that one comes down to a handful of plays. We have to keep from giving up the big play. We need to get our running game going too, that will give us a big advantage. I think we win a squeaker.

      3) Don't see us beating Texas but it wouldn't shock me if we win the turnover battle. I think we lose by 14-17 pts.

      4) Tulane has turned into a horrible program. There's no way we should lose that game.

and since when do we not play to the level of a weaker opponent? you can say coaching all you want but Ole Miss has managed to make what should be a blowout into a breath holder since at least Cutcliff, i would say before that but my memory doesnt quite reach that far back baby
