COLUMN: Lesson learned

A lesson learned Saturday night by Ole Miss, but Rebels must move on...

David Johnson
    • Good article David, you pretty much said it all.

    • Nothing ventured, nothing gained...I really didn't believe Texas would be that good, but they were. We looked overpowered on defense, we missed tackles repeatedly, two under thrown balls that should have been intercepted went for TD's bcs our DB's were out of position or not looking for the ball. All in all, I think you could see the nemesis of a real powerful football team in the making.
There are pieces to this puzzle still missing, but if we can get the people in the right places, we Will have one helluva team.

    • As I am a Longhorn fan, my opinion may not matter much. That said, you looked very much like a team on the rise to my eyes. You were solid on offense and the defense will come in time. Your gameday atmosphere was a great treat and your fans were incredible and hospitable. That Moncrief kid really looked good. Good luck guys! I really enjoyed the trip.

Agree. I think all you really need is size on both lines (easier said than done). It looked like your DBs were playing man a lot on those deep balls, and when that happens (and the WR has a step) underthrown balls seem to work (either completed or PI penalty).

Your offense is really good or our D was vastly overrated. Obviously I am hoping it's the former. Monctief is a gamer. Wallace needs a little more time (see improving the lines) but needs to make smarter decisions when pressured. Looking forward to seeing you guys next year - if you're coming down, PM me and I'll shoot you details on where we tailgate etc.

Please forgive our aggie brethren (Texas a&m), we are nothing like them.

    • Your comments are pretty typical of all the Texas people. I look forward to visiting Austin next year. I do hope our hospitatlity made an impression. We are a building program, but the potential for much better days is there.

    • Our defense is entirely to small, yes i was disappointed in how we attempted tackles but even the several times we did wrap up our guy just got slam run over. You cant teach size but the biggest improvment i saw by far was the team KEPT playing. They never gave up, they got run over and just flat beat and they played as hard the last snap as the first, long way to, go yet, we beat auburn, arkansas, tulane, possibly vandy and as bad as M A&M looked good chance there as well. We knew coming in it was gonna be a long year, but if we play right it might be a little longer (13th game) than expected
