Grant Heard returns to Ole Miss

Reports are coming in today stating that former Ole Miss wide receiver, Grant Heard, will be joining Coach Hugh Freeze on the Rebels coaching staff. He will be the Wide Receivers coach.

Heard will be the second former Rebel player to join Freeze’s staff, the other being his former teammate Matt Luke. Grant Heard will be taking over the position with 11-years of coaching experience to his credit. With stops at Jackson Prep, Hargrave Military Academy, North Carolina State, graduate assistant at Ole Miss, Western Michigan, Lambuth University, and also Arkansas State. Grant will also be joining his brother Ronnie who currently works in the UMAA office and has also served as an interim recruiter for Ole Miss Football.

During his playing days, Heard appeared in four bowl games (1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000). He also graduated as the Rebels all-time leader in career receptions and touchdowns. He earned his bachelor's degree from Ole Miss in 2001. Following his collegiate career, Heard was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2002 and sent to play in NFL Europe. In 2001, Heard appeared in several preseason games for the San Francisco 49ers.

Filling the receiving coach vacancy does not mean that Gunter Brewer is now out of the picture. It is still believed that a position on this staff is his if he so chooses to accept it. Stay tuned to Rebels247 for more updates.
