When LSU landed a commitment from Hinds Community College wide receiver Quantavius Leslie, the staff's hope was that the nation's No. 5 ranked JUCO wideout would finish his fall coursework and enroll at LSU for January, where he would count back towards the team's 2012 signing class, and more importantly, work out with the team during spring practices.
Leslie dropped the ball this past semester and now hopes to finish by May
With junior college signing day now in the rearview mirror, the four-star prospect is set to take a different path.
Per sources at both Hinds and LSU, Leslie will not graduate from Hinds this month. Instead, he will return to campus for three classes this spring.
To make matters more complicated, one source on the Hinds staff tells Geaux247 that Leslie is now a "long shot to qualify" by the end of the summer, pointing to three courses that Leslie has to retake in order to get to a college campus by May. If he drops the ball again this semester, Leslie's final chance to get to Baton Rouge by next fall would be summer school and intersession courses, which in turn leaves the LSU staff in a tough situation with the current numbers crunch.
Leslie has caught the eye of a number of other programs, including Texas, but hasn't wavered from his commitment to the Tigers, which he made last May. With one final semester now between Leslie and a college campus, expectations are that the Georgia native stays committed to LSU.
According to a source on the LSU side, Leslie has not been dropped from the board yet, but the staff is pursuing other options on both the junior college and high school level.
Stay tuned with Geaux247 for the latest on this developing situation.
