Well, this has been interesting. Today, it's Oxford and Lafayette Public School Day at the ball park. There's already about 800 kids from 8 to 15 here...One group of fourth graders got about 30 minutes of dancing in as the speakers have been turned up.
The highlight so far was Tuesday's winning pitcher, Josh Laxer do an impromptu dance in front of the kiddies. His teammates who were trying to warm with long toss, stood transfixed on their teammate..He might not be able to live this one down..
Actually, a list of the schools here: Vardaman, Bruce, Glendale, Saltillo, North Panola..Water Valley...among others.
Ole Miss lineup: Mathis. Boz hits second followed by Anderson, now at .371, Turner (.437), Mistone, Orvis back in after a day off, Allen, Jamjson in RB, Overbey at 2B.
Ole Miss has already knocked out SELA starter Kaleb Manuel. It's 3-0 with one out. Five straight batted balls drew cheers from the Lafayette Elementary School kiddies.
It's 5-0 after two complete. After a shaky start with two walks and a balk, Brady Bramlett had a 1-2-3 second. Anderson got his second hit of the day on a bunt single and made it to third base but was left stranded when Sikes Orvis flew out to left.
Tanner flies out to right to end the third. He's 0-3 for the day. Still 5-0 after three complete. T-shirt give away gets the kiddies up and cheering..
The kids begin retreating from the shade to the sunny areas..Lafayette County Elementary has to depart..didn't bring any lunch money..what's up with that? Rebs lose most vocal fans..but they do get another run as Anderson gets his third hit to move Boz to third and Turner brings him in for his 19th RBI of the season. It's 6-0 in the fourth..
whats the reasoning for the early morning game on a weekday?
$50 bet with Rebels10 - Best of 3 Egg Bowls
**the $50 goes to others schools athletics dept**
Something Bianco and the Bjork wanted to do. To give these kids an experience of college baseball. Better to sit out in the cold and wind for three hours than in a classroom. There's like 1,500 kids here and about 20 percent are African American. Many of these kids probably have never been to a baseball park this big or nice..considering some are coming from as far away as Bruce and Vardaman..
great thing to do. those kids will love it.
And Sela doesn't mind. They get to play two games..and go home early.. It's 6-2 going to the bot of the sixth. Bramlett goes 5 innings, five hits, one run.walked three and fanned two. Not as good as last week, but SELA's a way better team than Pine Bluff.
Kiddies start to depart..One scribe said the game should be called. As of now's its 6-2 Rebels top of the seventh with two out. Weathersby is in
Still 6-2 as we go to the ninth. Greenwood in..or as he's otherwise known.,,the guy who closes out the Rebels routs.
Greenwood doesn't get it done..walks bases full but Tanner Bailey strikes out the four-hole hitter and Rebs win 6-2.
thanks for the updates during the game
