Other than South Panola (part Delta), I will take a Bolivar County all-star team against the rest of the Delta anytime! The quality of the coaching (Leland Young @ Rosedale and Benoit, Leroy Byars @ Cleveland East Side) has had a lot to do with the success of some of the Bolivar County teams in the past. You have to remember that Rosedale and Benoit were once a single team a decaide ago. After Coach Young retired, he came back and litterally started the high school football program at Benoit (Ray Brooks). Since then, both have won state titles in their respective divisions. I know he would be real proud of both programs. A school consolidation bill that will combine Shaw, Benoit and Rosedale is on the governor's desk. Nobody from Bolivar County (me included) really likes the idea of consolidation, but the rest of the state better watch out in football, basketball and track.

I wouldn't be so quick to say Clarksdale was the king of the Delta when it came to Football during the Leland Young era in the 1980s and early 1990s. West Bolivar and Clarksdale didn't start playing until Leland Young tenure ended near the mid 90s. I know for a fact they haven't played each other more than ten times. Clarksdale has the most head to head wins but that might be different if the teams had played against each other during Coach Young tenure. Coach Johnson currently at West Bolivar has done a great job of following the footsteps of the coach he played under as well. Also, Charleston is part of the Delta. Coach Vance has done a good job there. I don't want to make it sound as if there isn't anymore good coaches in the Delta.

We beat every team in Bolivar County my Sr. Year. I think we've(Clarksdale) only lost to Rosedale twice in about 15 years or so and those 2 L's have been recent.
Clarksdale use to be king of the Delta when in came to Football, we're coming back to regain that top spot.

Watching the game this afternoon i noticed that the coaches had moved Deon Mix to the left guard position. Deon made some good blocks but he still looks raw at the position. Mix is a big guy that looks to have all the potential in the world, long arms and a wide bottom will be key for him. There was another young man that stood out to me on that offensive line, he goes by the name Lighting. Lighting plays the right tackle positon for the South Panola Tigers, and Issac Gross thanks he is one of the best out there and that was enough for me.
I've come to the conclusion that the State of Mississippi has some of the biggest lineman yet the rawest talent in the country. I think it's the lack of speed and technique that our offensive linemen are missing. I'm not pointing the finger but somebody needs to get to work. Offensive and defensive linemen use to be the pride of Mississippi, lets get back to those times. There's to many big bodies around this state for me to keep hearing, Mississippi has limited linemen prospects.
Can somebody please tell me what has happened to the Mississippi Delta?
