What's Going on in Oxford?

  • Seriously, you guys are tearing up the recruiting trail. What the heck is going on? What's your secret?

    napoleon

  • Hugh Freeze.

  • Yeah, he's the man, but still. You've got three 5*s and you're going to sign Nkemdiche. You're also going after Golson, Denson (two of our commits; sorry, can't have 'em) and Denver Kirkland (future 'Nole, hopefully). I'm happy for your program, but this is unprecedented in Oxford. There are a lot of cynical folks on other boards that suspect some $ is being thrown around.

    napoleon

  • So my question to those people is Bama has top 5 classes every year so are they buying players also?

    tigerh4rebs

  • Ever been to Oxford?

Do you believe everything on the Internet?

Get out of here. I don't appreciate your tone about my coach.

24 up votes and 3 / 4 down votes is almost like giving everyone a trophy, win or lose.

I'm not here to flame, but, come on, Bama wins EVERY year; Ole Miss doesn't.

    That's not very positive, Pete.

Listen, I hear Oxford is beautiful. Hugh Freeze is a great coach, but . . . still . . .

Yea that's what happens when you start pulling recruits that you're not supposed to. I'll put it like this. Our schools are a lot alike. Beautiful campuses, tons of hot girls, nice weather, huge oarty scene, and surprisingly a quality education. I don't think it's one thing but a combination. We have the whole we play in the SEC factor, which might not mean much to y'all but to recruits it does. We brought freeze in because we knew he was a great recruiter.

Now in return to the $$ issue!

Robert Nkemdiche's brother plays linebacker for us
Laquon Treadwell's best friend and former teammate Anthony standifer plays for us.
Antonio Conner is from south panola high school (Batesville) which is a huge pipeline being 20 mins down the road.
Lavon Hooks , Quadarius Mirales, and jarran Reed played juco ball both within an hour and a half of Oxford.
Nick Brassell played for us in 2011 and left bc of grades.

Now the rest of our class such as Daniel, Kincade, Dodson, etc that's just a product of great recruiting.

    Just a little info

I knew about Nkemdiche, but I didn't know about the others. Ok. Makes sense. And yes, I hear your campus is beautiful. Listen, I haven't seen your schedule for next year, but do us a favor, if you play UF, please kick their asses. Congratulations on a great recruiting class. Seriously. Peace.

+1 CBT thanks for being a positive representative of Ole Miss. Others could learn from you.

  • Yeah we have all the sudden started handing out the cash for the big boys... Think about how much sense this actually makes? None at all. Don't you think if we knew we could be successful doing it we would have done it all along? As the above posters mentioned, its been a mix of Hugh Freeze and the dominoes falling our way in terms of recruits with connections to the school. It is likely we won't ever have this good of a class ever again, although Coach Freeze definitely has us on an uptick. Frankly, I am tired of someone from another site posting allegations of us paying players every day, but I know we will have to constantly deal with this if we continue to have success.

Sorry if I was not a good ambassador. He rubbed me in an unpositive manner.

  • No prob Pete. I'll stand up and defend our Rebs just like everybody else. I just like seeing us extend the same hospitality to those visiting this board as we do those visiting our beloved Grove. Which is not like the other board from a neighboring school. You could go there and tell them Jesus loves them, and somebody will insult your momma.

Thanks. Both you and CBT10 set me straight. I wasn't aware of the recruits' connections to the school. The only one I knew about was Nkemdiche. I actually posted CBT10's breakdown on the Nole site so Nole fans are made aware of what's really going on with Ole Miss. When I spoke of $ I'm telling you what everyone is saying on my site (except one who thinks Freeze is above reproach). Seriously, I wish ya'll the best. The SEC needs a new face. Maybe it'll be Ole Miss and Vandy. Stomp on UF!!

It really is a perfect storm. Freeze has been nothing but gold on and off the field. The beauty of this years recruiting class is not what the coaches have been able to accomplish but how the recruits, recruit themselves to Ole Miss. Like mentioned, many of these recruits already have a connection to Ole Miss in the first place. Now obviously some of these guys don't, but you know how high school kids are.... they gravitate towards the "cool thing" and right now Ole Miss is the "cool thing" out there.

    Hotty toddy!

Thanks napoleon. As far as $$ go, we're use to it. Every time anything positive happens at Ole Miss the doubters race to see who will be the first to say we bought it. Nothing new here.

  • @napoleon even if we wanted to pay we wouldn't have the money for it. We are the poorest football program in the SEC.

    hottytoddycp176

  • A Seminole fan wouldn't know anything about recruiting violations haha

    Bugs Harriman

  • Napolean..I'm a Rebel fan first..Noles fan second have been for quite some time. What you're seeing now is similare to what FSU saw many years ago when a coach with a vision, passion, and undeniable desire to make an impact in the lives of young men. When Bobby Bowden began to build the Seminole program it wasn't due to money or cheating..he did it one player at a time through hard work and a commitment to make them better people first and football players second.
Also, it wasn't too long ago in the Shula years that Bama wasn't that good. Saban's first year there and he had a bit time class. Sometimes the right person with the right work ethic can make a big difference. I do invite you to make a trip to Oxford for a game. That atmosphere is second to none and Ole Miss is right up there with the best of them as far as facilities..with plans to improve.
No offense taken to your posts..and Florida has treated us pretty well in the past few matchups!

  • Ask yourself this....are our pockets as deep as our competition? The answer is not even close..... think of HF as a Christian ed orgeron when it comes to recruiting....and think that RK has led to a lot of this also.....its been a perfect storm.

  • I have to say that even I am interested in Ole Miss now! I would love to visit the campus--it's beautiful. Plus, ya'll seem to be the most reasonable (and likeable) fans in the SEC. Hats off to you!!!
