Ole Miss received a commitment from Greenwood, Miss., athlete Sammie Epps Wednesday afternoon, giving the Rebels’ their sixth commitment from inside the state of Mississippi and seventh overall for the Class of 2014.
Epps as a sophomore at Pillow Aacdemy.
Epps is a 6-3, 210 pounder out of Greenwood High School who could play either outside receiver or tight end.
Epps took little time in making a commitment. Ole Miss extended the offer on Tuesday. Epps’ primary recruiter to Ole Miss was assistant coach Derrick Nix.
“Ole Miss is my home,” Epps said Wednesday. “I’ve been watching Ole Miss since I was in elementary school. It’s my school. It’s like home. Ole Miss is the only one.”
Epps said Ole Miss was his only offer, though Mississippi State had been showing interest.
Epps is a big athlete with excellent speed. His 40-yard dash time is 4.52 seconds.
Epps played his sophomore season at Pillow Academy in Greenwood before transferring to Greenwood High School.
Last season as a junior, Epps caught 45 passes for 500 yards and three touchdowns.
Epps plans to attend upcoming spring practices at Ole Miss but is unsure of the dates.
Epps is also reportedly a full qualifier.
